iHorary

The traditional method, taken seriously

iHorary is horary astrology — the 400-year-old technique that answers a specific question by reading the sky at the moment you ask it — built as a working instrument. No birth chart, no birth time, no personality profiles. Just your question, the chart of that moment, and every testimony the tradition weighs, set out for you to judge.

How it works

Type your question — anything with a real answer in it. "Will I get the job?" "Does he love me?" "Where are my keys?" iHorary casts a chart for the exact moment you ask.

You name the house the question belongs to — or take the suggestion and change it if you disagree. Turned charts included: your sister's husband's promotion is the 10th from the 7th from the 3rd, and the chain is worked out for you.

The engine then weighs the chart by the same rules astrologers have used since the 1600s — dignities, receptions, perfection, the considerations before judgment — and lays every testimony out in the order a judgment is actually made, marked for or against. On the free chart it states no verdict; the paid reading does. Tap any term and it shows you the rule it comes from and where Lilly says it.

Your own judgment can be recorded with the chart, and later, when you know what happened, you record that too. That paired record is how you find out whether you are getting better — and it comes with approved practitioner access, together with your working notes.

I didn't want another horoscope app. I wanted the instrument I couldn't find while I was learning to read charts.

Not another horoscope app

Most astrology apps give you personality profiles from your birth chart. That is natal astrology — it tells you who you are. Horary is different: it answers a specific question about what is happening now.

iHorary is built for horary from the ground up, and built to be learned from. One question, one chart, every testimony laid out — and the judgment left with you.

The tradition

iHorary is built on the lineage you already know. Here is where its defaults come from.

5th–8th century
Masha’allah and Sahl ibn Bishr formalize the rules of horary judgment. The reception and dignity systems used here originate with them.
13th century
Bonatti’s Liber Astronomiae: 146 considerations for judging horary charts. The considerations-before-judgment checks draw from this.
1647
Lilly publishes Christian Astrology. The dignity table, house assignments and default methodology follow his system directly — and every rule card cites it.
1980s–1990s
Barclay reintroduces Lilly’s methods. Hand translates Bonatti. The STA begins certifying practitioners. The modern horary revival.
Today
iHorary computes what you’d compute by hand — with Swiss Ephemeris precision, in seconds. The judgment remains yours.

What can you ask?

Any concrete question — yes or no, where, when, or what's really going on. You name the house it belongs to; the chart is worked out in full.

Under the hood

Swiss Ephemeris (SE 2.10) — sub-arcsecond planetary positions. The same engine professional astrologers trust.

Regiomontanus house system by default. House cusps computed for the exact moment and location of your question.

William Lilly’s dignity table, with his own triplicity rulers and Ptolemaic terms — the gold standard in horary. Dorothean triplicities and Egyptian terms stay selectable.

Planetary hour and day ruler computed from sunrise/sunset at your location.

Moon void-of-course detection, mutual receptions, antiscia, Arabic Parts, and 40+ traditional rules — all analyzed automatically.

What you get

A full horary chart — seven classical planets, house cusps, and aspect lines, all interactive.

The key planets in your question — identified automatically with their strengths, weaknesses, and conditions.

How the planets relate to each other — who supports whom, and where the tension is. Reception is often what decides a chart.

A timeline showing how the situation unfolds — when things come together or fall apart.

The chart, the tables, the evidence and the guided walk are free, and an account keeps them with you to revisit. Only the written reading costs anything, and only if you ask for one. Working notes, your own judgment and the outcome record come with approved practitioner access.

400 years of tradition

iHorary is built on the methods of William Lilly (1647), Bonatti (13th c.), and the Arabic-era founders of horary astrology — Masha’allah and Sahl ibn Bishr.

Everything these astrologers would compute by hand is computed here in seconds, laid out in the order a judgment is made. On the free chart, what it adds up to is still your call — that has not been automated, and should not be.

The same astrology. Just faster, clearer, and in your hands.
